My First Ceilidh

A Ceilidh (pronounced "Kay Lee") is a Scottish word that translates to mean "party" or "gathering" and a Ceilidh Dance is the traditional dance(s) of Scotland. Sunday evening, to conclude our orientation, the dining hall was cleared and we were taught five Ceilidhs. To give you a taste of these fun, energetic dances, I recorded three of them. The first is called Canadian Barn Dance. Sorry, I don't remember the names of the others.

If I were to send a Christmas letter...

Christmas is traditionally the time when mailboxes fill up with Christmas cards from loved ones, old friends, and neighbors. Where I come from, some simply send a card with a handwritten “Merry Christmas”, or a photo card showing how their family has grown, but many send a letter giving highlights of their year. It may be from the friend you haven’t seen in 20 years, or the extended family member you maybe see once a year, but you can get the low-down on vacations taken, family sicknesses, and children’s accomplishments in this once-a-year letter tradition. Wisconsin In Scotland

What better way to see the world than through studying abroad!? I first heard of the Wisconsin In Scotland program when researching colleges in high school. During my first semester at UW-Superior I learned all I could about it, and before my freshman year of college was over I had resolved to take the opportunity. The Wisconsin In Scotland (WIS) program is a unique study abroad option. Students from various UW System schools and Normandale Community College live and learn in Dalkeith House outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. Classes are conducted in the "Palace," taught by Scottish and American professors, and the credits will transfer directly back to my transcript. Travel is encouraged through the two extended weekend travel breaks, spring break, and not to mention classes are only held Monday-Thursday. Adios, Mexico

Our last days in Cozumel were relaxing and low-key with nothing but resort activities planned. Each day still had its highlights though! Thursday, September 22, 2016 French toast for breakfast! Sue and I got massages in the morning, followed by some resort-sponsored "arts & crafts" time where we learned how to make the easiest and coolest string bracelets! In the afternoon, we went to the ceviche cooking lesson again. Now that we knew how good it was we weren't about to miss free food! The rest of the afternoon was pretty "typical" with some pool and hammock time. While eating supper in our room, we noticed the stunning sunset, so we left our plates and ran outside for pictures.
